Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel. Just like Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X, Linux is an operating system. An operating system is software that manages all of the hardware resources associated with your desktop or laptop. From smartphones to cars, supercomputers and home appliances, the Linux operating system is everywhere.
A practical and hands-on introduction to the Linux operating system, this workshop is perfectly suited for administrators, developers or power-users planning to use Linux in their environment. The workshop will also be very handy for decision makers evaluating Linux for its IT infrastructure.
The labs and concepts are independent of a particular distribution of Linux and apply to other flavors of UNIX as well. We use a recent Linux distribution for all labs.
